What is T7 Endonuclease I

T7 endonuclease I (T7EI / T7E1) is a homodimeric enzyme consisting of 149 amino acid subunits derived from T7 phage. T7EI cleaves a wide variety of mismatched DNA structures, from branched strands to mismatched heteroduplexes, in addition to degrading 4 directional holliday junctions, an important intermediate generated by both homologous and site-specific recombination. Using this feature, DNA mutations can be detected by the presence or absence of DNA breaks.
