R&D Systems offers a Human TIM-1/KIM-1/HAVCR Quantikine ELISA Kit (#DKM100) for detecting TIM-1 in human urine. T cell immunoglobulin mucin (TIM-1), also known as KIM-1 and HAVCR, is a variably glycosylated, type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the TIM family of immunoglobulin superfamily molecules. TIM-1 is found on CD4⁺ T cells and proximal renal tubular cells, and serves as a receptor for TIM-4 and hepatitis A virus. TIM-1 is highly upregulated on the surface of injured kidney epithelial cells that assume attributes of endogenous phagocytes. Microalbuminuria is a condition characterized by albumin in the urine that results from kidney damage. Like albumin, TIM-1 in the urine may serve as a biomarker of renal injury.

Assessment of TIM-1/KIM-1/HAVCR Levels in Human Urine using the Quantikine ELISA Kit.
A. TIM-1 levels in 26 urine samples from apparently healthy individuals and 56 samples from patients with microalbuminuria were determined using the Human TIM-1/KIM-1/HAVCR Quantikine ELISA Kit (#DKM100). Values were normalized to the levels of Creatinine in the urine, which were determined using the Creatinine Parameter™ Assay Kit (#KGE005). The mean levels of TIM-1/Creatinine detected in both healthy and patient urine samples are shown.
B. The levels of TIM-1 in the 56 patient samples were compared to the reported concentrations of Microalbumin in each of the samples.
