What is Bottromycin A2

Bottromycin A2 has a cyclic peptide structure and shows inhibitory activity against gram-positive bacteria. It is also reported to have low toxicity but strong antibacterial activity against drug-resistant bacteria, such as against MRSA(Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) and VRE(Vancomycin-Resistant enterococci) 2),3) . The mechanism of Bottromycin A2 is known to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the A-site of ribosome and blocking aminoacyl-tRNA binding 4,5) . Its biosynthesis, total synthesis, derivative synthesis and their biological activities have also been studied, and several papers have been reported.

Application Note

Bottromycin A2 shows potent antibacterial activities against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) among other Gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasma.2,3) The mechanism of action of botromycin A2 is known to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the A-site of the ribosome and blocking aminoacyl-tRNA binding.4,5)
