R&D Systems now offers a Human COMP Quantikine ELISA Kit (Catalog # DCMP0 ). Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP), also known as Thrombospondin-5, is a member of the Thrombospondin family of calcium-binding extracellular glycoproteins. It is predominantly found in the extracellular matrix of cartilage, tendons, and ligments and can bind to collagens type I and II, aggrecan, fibronectin, and matrilin. COMP is involved in endochondral ossification and in the assembly and stabilization of the extracellular matrix. In the cartilage of arthritis patients, COMP undergoes proteolytic cleavage. The resulting fragments are detectable in the circulation and may serve as biomarkers of disease severity and response to treatment. The Human COMP Quantikine ELISA Kit is designed to measure COMP concentrations in cell culture supernates, cell lysates, serum, and plasma.
