A cytosine nucleoside compound harboring acaricidal and broad antibacterial activities Bagougeramine A (Formate)
Date:October 24 2025Web Page No:520102
Bagougeramine A is a cytosine nucleoside compound and was isolated from culture filtrate of Bacillus circulans which was discovered in soil. This compound exhibited strong acaricidal activity against the two spotted spier mite (Tetranychus urticae) and had broad antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi.1,2)
On the other hand, gougerotin which was discovered as a natural compound harboring antibacterial activity from Streptomyces gougerotii had similar structure of bagougeramine A and was also reported that the compound inhibited protein synthesis.3,4)

Application Note
- In comparison to dicofol harboring acaricidal activity, bagougeramine A exhibited strong activity against the two-spotted spider mite.1)
- This compound showed antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, and some fungal species such as Pellicularia frlanrentosa f. sp. Sasakii which was known as a plant pathogen.1)
- It was considered that toxicity of bagougeramine A is low because oral administration of this compound (100 mg/kg) to mice did not exhibit acute toxicity. 1)
* Biological activity of the product was not verified. The values shown above were cited from the references.
