Aplasmomycin A was isolated from culture filtrate of Streptomyces griseus.¹⁾ This compound has the core macarolide structure with a central boron atom and determined the structure by X-ray crystallographic analysis of its Ag-salt.²⁾ This natural compound inhibited the growth of gram-positive bacterial including mycobacteria and it showed an antimalarial activity in mice infected with Plasmodium berghei.¹⁾ It was reported that Aplasmomycin A specifically inhibited the futalosine pathway of menaquinone biosynthesis.³⁾

Application Note

Aplasmomycin A exhibited an antibacterial activity to gram-positive bacteria and its Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) was shown as the range of 0.78-6.25 μg/ml.¹⁾
Acute toxicity (LD₅₀) in mice was 125mg/kg by intraperitoneal injection.¹⁾
Oral administration of the compound in mice decreased the number of erythrocytes infected by malaria parasites (Plasmodium berghei) and improved survival rate of the infected mice.¹⁾
Aplasmonycin A specifically inhibited the futalosine pathway of menaquinone biosynthesis.³⁾
