Natural compound harboring antibacterial and antifungal activities SF2425 (Sulfate)

SF2425 harboring three guanidino groups was isolated as an antibiotics from culture filtrate of Streptomyces.¹⁾ This natural compound has a similar structure of eulicin which was isolated from the same genus Streptomyces.²⁾ SF2425 was active against gram-positive bacteria and fungi such as Candida albicans.^1,3,4) In addition, it was reported that this compound inhibited production of nitric oxide (NO) in macrophages.^4,5). So SF2425 is an interesting natural compound as a biological research tool.

Application Note

SF2425 exhibited antibacterial activity to gram-positive bacteria. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) value of it was 0.78 μg/ml to Staphylococcus aureus 209-P JC-1 especially.¹⁾
This compound exhibited antifungal activity to fungi such as Candida albicans.^1,3,4)
It inhibited LPS and IFNγ induced nitric oxide formation by macrophage J774.1 cells.^4,5)
