Inhibitor of Angiogenesis MC-1 [CAS: 39051-96-2]

Date:July 08 2025Web Page No:520092

MC-1 which consists of an isocoumarin backbone is one of the derivatives from cytogenin (#16331) which was discovered from Streptoverticillium eurocidium. It was reported that this compound showed inhibitory activity against angiogenesis in mice, which is similar level to cytogenin. On the other hand, it had higher stability than cytogenin in vivo.1) Among metabolites of cytogenin in mice, MC-1 has a side-chain substituted from alcohol to carboxylate.
Intriguingly, it was also reported that MC-1 was isolated from Aspergillus ochraceus2) which is known to produce ochratoxin, and Aspergillus sp.3) which is a mangrove endophytic fungus.

Application Note

  • MC-1 which is one of the metabolites of cytogenin was indicated to be highly stable in vivo because it was excreted in urine without being metabolized by glucuronic acid conjugation.1)
  • It was reported that MC-1 has a similar activity of anti-arthritis in type II collagen-induced arthritic mice by oral administration (20 mg/kg).1)
  • In a mouse dorsal air sac assay, MC-1 inhibited S-180 tumor cells induced angiogenesis, which was similar level of the cytogenin’s inhibitory activity.1)
