Bioactive compound harboring antitumor, immunoregulatory, and antiangiogenic activities Cytogenin [CAS: 132971-59-6]
Date:July 01 2025Web Page No:520090
Cytogenin was first isolated from fermentation broth of Streptoverticillium eurocidicum as an immunomodulative antitumor substance.1) It showed antitumor activity against Ehrlich carcinoma and IMC carcinoma in mice by oral administration.1~3) In addition, it was reported that cytogenin had anti-inflammatory activity4,5), anti-diabetic effect6), suppression of angiogenesis7), and so on.

Application Note
- Cytogenin showed antitumor activity against Ehrlich carcinoma and IMC carcinoma in mice by oral administration.1~3)
- Cytogenin could activate macrophage mainly to secrete monokines such as IL-1 alpha and stimulate proliferation and differentiation of T-cells to produce lymphokines such as IFN-gamma, and GM-CSF.3)
- It was suggested that the mechanism of the anti-arthritic effect of cytogenin was different from that of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).4)
- It had anti-diabetic effect to streptozotocininduced diabetes in mice. In streptozotocininduced diabetes in mice, cytogenin suppressed increasing of blood glucose levels and decreasing of body weight. From this, it was suggested that the anti-diabetic effect might be involved in inhibition of NOx generation by anti-inflammatory cytokines.5)
- Cytogenin suppressed angiogenesis induced by malignant tumor cells, S180, in a mouse dorsal air sac assay system.6)
Related product: NM-3, biologically more stable than cytogenin
In order to improve pharmacological activity of cytogenin, a variety of the derivatives were examined and concluded that NM-3 which is a derivative of cytogenin had the most superior activity than other derivatives.7, 8)
