Galectin-1 is a non-glycosylated, monomeric or homodimeric carbohydrate-binding protein belonging to the prototype galectin family. It is produced by a variety of cell types and is localized to cytosolic compartments or secreted via non-classical pathways. Secreted Galectin-1 binds to GM1 ganglioside and several glycoprotein receptors including CD7, CD43, and CD45. Galectin-1 binding to these molecules contributes to the negative selection of developing T cells, regulatory T cell-mediated immunosuppression, resolution of the inflammatory response, and regulation of immune cell migration.

Assessment of Galectin-1 Levels in Cell Culture Supernates from Multiple Human Cancer Cell Lines. Aliquots of cell culture supernates removed from the indicated human cancer cell lines were assayed using the Human Galectin-1 Quantikine ELISA Kit (#DGAL10).
