HydroCell®
Cell culture plate, dish and flask immobilized super hydrophilic polymer to the surface HydroCell®
Date:March 20 2019Web Page No:81212
Low cell binding cultureware. On its surface, super hydrophilic polymer is immobilized and suppresses cell adhesion.
HydroCell® would be best for macrophage culture, embryoid formation of ES cells, differentiation induction (spheroid formation) of chondrocytes and an alternative to soft agar assay.

Features
- Applying unique nano-surface design technology, super hydrophilic polymer is fixed to the surface of the cultureware. In addition to being super hydrophilic, this polymer creates a free water film. The double effect of "super hydrophilicity" and "free water" results in a low adhesion performance that far surpasses conventional low-adhesion cultureware.
- Cell recovery rate: 99% or more. Cells do not adsorb to "rim (wall surface)" of cultureware. Rare samples can be recovered reliably.
Example of Use

Embryoid body culture
ES cells (embryonic stem cells) were seeded on HydroCell® and bacterial petri dish without surface treatment. In HydroCell®, there was no cell adhesion and embryoid body formation was possible uniformly. In bacterial petri dish there was cell adhesion.

Comparison to other brand products
Mouse macrophages were incubated for 3 days in ① HydroCell®, ②another brand's product and ③non-treated cultureware. Only HydroCell® allowed uniform suspension culture (>99% of the cells remained in suspension), simple cell dissociation and harvesting by pipetting.

Comparison of attachement rate
Normal rat kidney (NRK) cells were seeded in HydroCell® or other brands' similar products. Cell adhesion rate was measured by absorbance at seeding and after 5 days of incubation. The proliferation of anchorage-dependent cells were supressed (Left) and anchorage-independent cells were promoted (Center and Right). All data using HydroCell® were sperior than those of other brands.

Stem cell sphere formation
iPS spheres are formed on HydroCell® or other brand low cell binding dish. A complete sphere was surely formed on HydroCell®, while adhesion was observed on other low cell binding dish. (Data provided by A. Umezawa, National Center for Child Health and Development)
