Bioactive compound exhibiting pyroglutamyl peptidase (PG-peptidase) inhibition Benarthin
Date:July 22 2026Web Page No:718217
Benarthin is a bioactive natural compound harboring the catechol group, was isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces xanthophaerus. This compound inhibited pyroglutamyl peptidase (PG-peptidase) competitively (Ki:1.2 x 10-6 M).1) In addition, structural relationship studies of synthesizesd benarthin analogs indicated that the catechol group of benarthin was essential moiety for the inhibition of pyroglutamyl
peptidase.2,3)
Moreover, tribenarthin was reported as a related compound harboring a trimer structure composed of benarthin originated structure, and was described as a siderophore-like compound harboring a catechol-peptide structure.4)
