Specific inhibitor of serine carboxypeptidase Y Belactin A [CAS: 175448-24-5]
Date:October 10 2025Web Page No:520101
Belactin A is a natural compound harboring β-lactone ring, which was isolated from culture filtrate of Saccharopolyspora. Comparison to ebelactones A and B, belactin A had specific inhibitory activity toward serine carboxypeptidase Y (CP-Y).1,2)
CP-Y was known as a protease located in vacuoles in yeast.3)
Belactin A is a useful research tool for biochemistry, cell biology, and pharmacy relevant to serine carboxylase.2)

Application Note
- Belactin A did not exhibit antibacterial activities at 100 μg/ml.1)
- As intraperitoneal administration of belactin A to mice (100 mg/kg) did not exhibit acute toxicity, toxicity of it was considered to low.1)
- Belactin A had a high inhibitory activity toward CP-Y within various peptidases. In contrast, this compound exhibited weak inhibitory activities to dipeptidyl aminopeptidase 1 and prolyl endopeptidase, it did not have an inhibitory activity toward other peptidases.1)
- Although ebelacton A which is a β-lactone-containing compound as same as belactin A inhibited esterases and lipases, belactin A showed specific inhibitory activity to CP-Y.2)
