A simple and sensitive test kit for lithium (lithium carbonate) in serum samples. It has been suggested that lithium may affect mental function.

Significance of Lithium Determination

Lithium (Li) is associated with the release and suppression of serotonin, dopamine, and adrenaline in neurons, and is known to increase white blood cells, decrease blood pressure, and affect reproduction.
In the field of pharmacotherapy, lithium carbonate is frequently used as a lithium donor as a first-line or second-line drug in the treatment of bipolar disorder. However, excessive doses of lithium have been associated with kidney damage and other serious side effects, and medication management is important.
Recently, the effects of lithium on diseases related to oxidative stress in addition to mood stabilization have been reported one after another, and research on the effects of lithium on other diseases is being reconsidered.

Assay Principle

It observes the color development of the visible part due to chelate complex formation of polyhalogen-substituted porphyrins and lithium ions, and determines the lithium concentration. It is the world's first stable liquid color development kit for microplate readers. (Patent number: JP 5100903)

Features

  • Polyfluoroporphyrin reacts with lithium (Li+) in serum and develops a vivid color. In addition, even after 30 minutes of color development, the absorbance of both high and low concentration lithium samples remains constant, resulting in excellent stability.
  • Measurable with conventional microplate readers, as 96 well plate reader.
  • Each component can be stored stably for one month after opening.
  • Multi-point calibration is not required, because calibration is performed with two points, the standard and the blank sample included in the kit.
  • Sample type: serum, plasma (Do not use heparin lithium blood collection tubes.)
  • Assay range: 0.03-3.0 mM
  • Assay time: 10 minutes
