Background
CUGBP1 (CUG-binding protein 1) is a member of CELF (CUG-BP- and ETR-3-like factors) family of RNA-binding proteins that binds to a variety of mRNA cis-elements including UG-rich elements, GC-rich elements, GU-rich elements and AREs, and has been implicated in the regulation of mRNA alternative splicing as well as the control of mRNA translation and stability. CUGBP1 is ubiquitously expressed with localization in nucleus and cytoplasm as a component of an EIF2 complex which contains CELF1/CUGBP1, CALR, CALR3, EIF2S1, EIF2S2, HSP90B1 and HSPA5. CUGBP1 also associates with polysomes and interacts with HNRNPH1 and PARN. CUGBP1 was originally discovered as a protein which interacts with RNA CUG repeats that are expanded in patients with DM1 (myotonic dystrophy), which binds to 3'-untranslated region of the dystrophin myotonia protein kinase (DMPK) gene. However, CUGBP1 was later shown as multifunctional protein regulating many posttranscriptional processes including alternative splicing, deadenylation, mRNA decay, and translation. It has been involved in the processes of development (embryonic and cardiac), differentiation (skeletal muscle and adipose tissue), germ cell formation, tumorigenesis (breast cancer, leukemia etc) and deterioration of certain tumors as well.追加しました。
