Background
NKX3.1 (homeobox protein Nkx-3.1) is a homeodomain nuclear transcription factor expressed predominately in the prostate with very low testicular expression and is highly important in prostate biology. NKX3.1 interacts with SRF, SPDEF, WDR77 etc. and TOPORS polyubiquitinates NKX3-1 for inducing its proteasomal degradation regulation. NKX3.1 binds preferentially the consensus sequence 5'-TAAGT[AG]-3' and act as a transcriptional repressor for playing important role in normal prostate development, regulating proliferation of glandular epithelium and in the formation of ducts in prostate. Additionally, NKX3.1 functions as a prostate-specific tumor suppressor and diminished NKX3.1 expression is a consistent feature in human/mouse prostate cancers, wherein its expression is lost early in tumorigenesis suggesting that NKX3.1 loss is an early step in the progression to malignant disease.追加しました。
