R&D Systems offers Recombinant Mouse TIMP-2 (#6304-TM). Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2), along with other TIMP family members, functions as an endogenous inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). The balance between MMP and TIMP activities regulates turnover of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Breakdown of the ECM is required for both normal tissue remodeling processes and for the progression of pathological conditions, such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. In addition, TIMP-2 binds to Integrin alpha 3 beta 1 and inhibits endothelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis, and suppresses EGF-mediated mitogenic signaling.

TIMP-2 Inhibits MMP-2-induced Cleavage of a Fluorogenic Substrate.
Activated Recombinant Human MMP-2 (#902-MP) was incubated with increasing concentrations of Recombinant Mouse TIMP-2 (#6304-TM) for 2 hours prior to the addition of a fluorogenic substrate (#ES001). The specific activity of MMP-2 at each TIMP-2 concentration was determined.
