R&D Systems now offers a Rat Mesenchymal Stem Cell Functional Identification Kit (Catalog #SC020). This kit is designed to identify rat bone marrow-derived stem cells (BMSCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) based on their ability to differentiate into multiple mesenchymal lineages. The kit contains specially formulated media supplements that can be used to effectively differentiate BMSCs/MSCs into adipocytes, osteocytes, and chondrocytes. A panel of antibodies including goat anti-mouse FABP4, mouse anti-human Osteocalcin, and goat anti-human Aggrecan are also provided to assess the mature phenotypes of each lineage.

Differentiation and Identification of Rat Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) using the Rat Mesenchymal Stem Cell Functional Identification Kit. The Rat Mesenchymal Stem Cell Functional Identification Kit (Catalog #SC020) was used to differentiate MSCs into adipogenic (A), osteogenic (B), and chondrogenic (C) lineages. The phenotypes of each lineage were assessed using antibodies supplied with the kit (red) including anti-mouse FABP4 (A), anti-human Osteocalcin (B), and anti-human Aggrecan (C). The nuclei were counterstained with DAPI (blue).
