R&D Systems now offers recombinant mouse Klotho and Klotho beta proteins (Catalog #1819-KL and #2619-KB, respectively). Klotho and Klotho beta constitute a new subfamily of glycosidases and are involved in regulating FGF activity. Klotho is primarily expressed in areas related to calcium regulation, acts as a cofactor for FGF-23 binding, regulates calcium and vitamin D levels, and is associated with premature aging. Klotho beta is expressed in liver, pancreas, and adipose tissue, is required for FGF-19 and FGF-21 binding, regulates levels of bile acid, and aids in glucose uptake by adipocytes.
