They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. Required to allow mid- and hindbrain neurons to reach and maintain their appropriate positions within the neural tube by restricting neuronal motility within the embryonic mid- and hindbrain. |
