R&D Systems has produced high quality proteins for the research community for more than 20 years. Animal-free proteins are important for researchers concerned about potential variables caused by trace animal components or mammalian pathogens, and are particularly important for ex vivo cell therapy studies. Critically, our animal-free proteins share the same high biological activity as those produced using standard techniques.

Bioactivity of Standard and Animal-free IL-1 beta. T helper mouse D10.G4.1 cells were treated with the indicated concentrations of animal-free derived recombinant mouse IL-1 beta (Catalog # AFL401; red line) or the standard version of recombinant mouse IL-1 beta (Catalog # 401-ML; brown line). Cell number was assessed by a fluorometric assay using the redox sensitive dye, Resazurin (Catalog # AR002).
